Martha Mae Ballew Huffman, 83, of Asheville, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2026.

A lifelong native of Buncombe County, she was born on March 26, 1942, to the late William Dillard Ballew Sr. and Vertie Verdell Mashburn Ballew. She is also reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband James B. Huffman, brother Steve Ballew and sister, Kathleen Rice.

Martha loved spending time with her family, tending to all her plants, collecting elephants and Tasmanian Devil collectables. She also enjoyed listening to classic country music. 

Left to cherish Martha’s memory are her children, Daniel, Alisa, and Samuel Huffman, grandchildren Crysten, Robyn, and  Sara Huffman and Damon Jones, and great-grandchildren Kalysta and Kendrix Huffman, Anyah and Journey Cooper, Colter Rogers, and Gabriel Jones, sisters Mary Fortner and Louise Bradley, brother Dillard Ballew, who will miss her greatly.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Thursday, February 5, 2026, in the Wells Funeral Home located at 1 Chapel of Faith Dr. Candler, NC 28715. Funeral service will begin at 2 pm with officiating being conducted by close family members. The graveside service to follow the funeral service. 

The care of Martha Mae Ballew Huffman has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler, North Carolina.
