Canton – Martha Grooms, 87, of Haywood County, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Silver Bluff Rehabilitation Center.
Martha was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a daughter of the late John and Effie Rogers Metcalf. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Grooms, who passed away in 2001; a precious daughter, Joy Grooms; one son-in-law, Kenny Warren; two sisters; and two brothers. She graduated from Bethel School in 1952 and was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Martha loved the church and held many leadership roles.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Angie and Chuck Cathey of Canton and Janet and Mike Roberts of Clyde; three brothers, Rex Metcalf (Joann), Zane Metcalf (Bernice), and Keith Metcalf (Barbara); four grandchildren, Will Warren (Brianna), Erin Warren, Tyson Willis; and Taylor McClure (R.J.); and three great-grandchildren, Kenley Webb, Miller Warren, and Hadley McClure.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Reverend Eddie Deitz officiating. Burial will follow the church cemetery.
Due to Covid-19, masks and social distancing will be observed.
