Mark James Hopkins, age 72, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Reverend Frank B. Hopkins, Sr. and Nadine C. Hopkins.
Mark is survived by his daughter, Mary Walker Hopkins, formerly of Waynesville, North Carolina; sister, Hope H. Smith, of Gaffney, South Carolina; and brothers, Frank B. Hopkins, Jr., and wife, Shelba, of Waynesville, North Carolina and Charles A. Hopkins, and wife, Lynn, of Mooresville, North Carolina. He is also survived by his step-mother, Betty Hopkins, of Mooresville, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Mark was a member of FUMC Waynesville and the same Sunday School Class for over 25 years. He loved his church family and spent many hours at various church functions. He taught Sunday School, helped with the youth, and volunteered anytime he could. Being a part of such a special congregation brought much joy to his life.
Mark was a loving father, adored by his daughter, a devoted friend, and a long-time Atlanta Braves fan. He rarely missed watching a game.
His outgoing personality and his compassionate heart led to his many friendships over the years. He never knew a stranger and was always welcoming to those around him. Anyone who met Mark left with a friend.
