Marie Ewart

January 26, 1918 — September 21, 2011

Waynesville, Marie Fisher Ewart, age 93, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late David C. and Annie Mildred Rathbone Fisher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Cleveland Ewart, who died in 2003; one son, Mark Ewart; three brothers, Ben, James, and Robert Fisher; three sisters; Glee Messer, Rose Parkins, and Hazel Harris. Marie enjoyed sitting on her porch looking over her flowers and animals. She also enjoyed reading her Bible, quilting, and canning. Marie was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mildred Rogers (Johnny) of Waynesville and Letha Hannah (Roger) of Maggie Valley; three sons, Grover Ewart (Hilda) of Waynesville, William Ewart, of Clyde, and Freddie Ewart (Brenda) of Lenoir; one sister, Esther Kirkpatrick of Thomasville; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchilren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Rhinehart and Reverend Bobby Downs officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Darrell and Barron Rogers, Ronnie, Bruce, and Michael Fisher, and Frank Messer. Honorary pallbearers will be Junior Kirkpatrick and Tim McCracken.
