Maria Amaryllis Courtney, 78, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, at Silver Bluff Village in Canton, North Carolina, with her sister, Linda, by her side. Born on June 14, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Maria was the daughter of the late James and Lillian Wizimirski Courtney.

Maria graduated from Holy Spirit High School in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Class of 1965. She later earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Journalism from Cabrini College. Maria was a talented technical writer and service technician writer who dedicated more than 20 years of service to companies such as Apple and Fannie Mae during her professional career.

Maria had a true passion for writing, especially fiction and adventure stories. She treasured traveling across the United States and especially loved the excitement and charm of the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. Maria also deeply loved rabbits. She found great peace and happiness at the beach, as the water was truly her happy place.

Maria was married for some time to Rick D’Alessandro.

She is survived by her loving sister, Linda Brody; her loving nephew, James March and his wife, Lauren; and their son, Jameson.

The care of Mrs. Courtney has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
