Margaret Meadows

Margaret Regina Rathbone Meadows (aka The Warden) age 82 of Candler (aka The Rock) passed away April 8th after a brief illness. Heaven has gained a soldier and angel.

Margaret was the last surviving child of Margaret Carleen Cody Rathbone and Orville William Rathbone. In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her son, Virgil Lee Meadows, Jr.: Sisters, Mary Alice Rathbone, Ruba Lee Rathbone Caldwell, Hester Rosetta Rathbone Cagle, Sally Kathryn Rathbone Morgan, Amanda Evelyn Rathbone Meadows and one brother, Raymond Elie "Dutch" Rathbone.

Margaret is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Virgil lee Meadows, Sr and daughter, Janet Elaine Meadows of the home. As well as her dog, Scarlett and cats, Sadie and Diamond.

Margaret retired from American Enka/BASF after 38 years of service. Additionally, Margaret championed the Civil Rights of others especially the disabled and those who could not speak for themselves. She was a soldier and an angel.

Margaret’s strength and humor resonated with everyone she met.  To her nephews she was “The Warden” and her home “The Rock”.

Her generosity knew no bounds she would give anything for those she loved. Once you walked in her door you were no longer a stranger but a member of the family. Margaret was an avid gardener who loved all flowers. She also loved cooking, canning and making crafts.  She is the last of the true “Mountain women” in her family.

Margaret will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing her, but she will be missed most as mother and wife.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Wells Chapel of Faith.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Wells Chapel of Faith.

The care of Mrs. Meadows has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
