Margaret "Charlene" Howell

Waynesville, Margaret "Charlene" Henson Howell, 87, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her family.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Herman and Margaret Thompson Henson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, M.E. "Gene" Howell, who died in 2006; son, Brett Howell; four sisters, Sarah Henson, Christina Henson, Eva Nell Singleton, and Rebecca "Becky" Mathis; and one brother, Ronnie Henson.  Charlene was employed by Dayco Corporation for 35 years.  She was a member of Barberville Baptist Church where she played the organ, piano, and was hostess to church events. 

Charlene is survived by her son, Stacey Howell; brother, Tony Henson; one grandson, Mark Howell; and several nieces and nephews.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to Haywood Hospice and Palliative Care, and especially to her nurse, Stephanie Kirton, for their devoted care. 

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Barberville Baptist Church, with Reverend "Wes" Stephens and Reverend Kris Estep officiating.  Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. at the church.
