Marcene Calhoun

Waynesville, Marcene Arrington Calhoun, age 76, passed away on Saturday, December 08, 2018 at Smoky Mountain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Way and Tennie Kirkpatrick Arrington.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ray Calhoun, who died in 2009; three brothers, Hartsel, James and Boyd Arrington; three sisters, Patsy Mathews, Peggy Tabor and Helen West.  Marcene retired from Enka with 20 years of service and was a member of Panther Creek Baptist Church.  Marcene was a kind, caring, and a mother to many.  Her home was considered a sanctuary to many of her children’s friends.  Marcene was known for her delicious apple butter, canned jelly and fresh garden vegetables.  She was also an involved Nana, never missing an opportunity to spoil her beloved grandchildren.

Marcene is survived by her daughter, June Noland (Bill), of Hazelwood; son, Darrell Calhoun (Joleen), of Waynesville; sister, Shirley Arrington, of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, SSgt Zachery D. Noland (Tammi), of San Diego, Connor Noland (Toria) and Mason Ray Calhoun (Mekayla); two great-grandchildren, Damon and Tatum Noland; of San Diego.

Funeral services will be held at Panther Creek Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018 with Reverend Ronald Greene officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.  Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Troutman, Mason Calhoun, Connor Noland, Mike Meade, Bill Cothran and Travis Smith; Honorary pallbearers will be Zander and Odin Davis.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring staff of Smoky Mountain Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center and Autumn Care Nursing Home.
