Maggie McCracken, age 20, passed away unexpectedly on April 5th, 2024.

A Haywood County native, Maggie was born May 7th, 2003. A scholar and an athlete, she played varsity volleyball and softball at Pisgah High School, while also graduating first in her class. After graduating from high school, Maggie attended Appalachian State University and Western Carolina University: she was on track to graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelors of Science in Integrated Health Science and a minor in Psychology. She was planning to continue her education at Western and earn a Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

Outside of the classroom, Maggie lived a colorful and happy life. She enjoyed sitting in the hunting blind with her Daddy, going on country rides with her boyfriend, Jarrett, traveling, shopping, and getting pedicures with her Mom and Granna (since she was “The Favorite''), and playing cards with her Nana and Paw. She especially loved arguing with her brother, Levi, until he backed down out of fear. Without a doubt, she always knew she had her Poppa “wrapped around her finger.” You could often find her at the Starbucks counter first thing in the morning and hanging out with her friends at night. Maggie loved being on her family's land in Thickety. Maggie was fortunate to be adopted by her boyfriend's family, The Broome’s, and loved spending time at their home in Leicester. She was known for her fierce wit, kind gestures, bright red hair, and Nanny Cora’s eyes.  She was a member of Canton Central United Methodist Church.

Maggie is survived by her parents, Mark and Crystal McCracken; longtime boyfriend, Jarrett Broome; her brother, Levi (Tyler) McCracken-Jacon; her grandparents, Mike and Martha McCracken and Charles and Joyce Williamson; her aunts and uncles, Travis (Mandy) Williamson, Matthew (Nicole) McCracken, and Michael (Christy) McCracken; and her dog, Daisy Mae. Maggie is also survived by countless other family members and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8th, 2024, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Owens and Reverend Paul Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at noon.
