Clyde, Lucy Surrett Hoglen, 101, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Lucy was born and raised in the beautiful Crabtree Community, the daughter of the late Noah and Matilda Bryant Surrett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Noble Hoglen, who died in 1995; two sons, Arthur and Ernest Hoglen, as well as four brothers and four sisters.
For countless years, Lucy and Noble volunteered at Crabtree Baptist Church. Lucy taught Sunday-School, was a member of Women on a Mission, and served many meals to families in need. She was also an avid gardener and canner. Lucy will always be remembered for her generosity and her kind spirit.
Lucy is survived by a son, Jerry Hoglen and his wife, Joyce, of Clyde; a daughter-in-law, Hazel Johnson and her husband, Bob Nanney, of Waynesville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Crabtree Baptist Church with Reverend Charles Dean and Reverend Dennis Ruff officiating. Burial will follow at Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
