Lucy Ferguson

December 8, 1917 — April 4, 2008

Fines Creek, Margaret Lucy James Ferguson, age 90, passed away peacefully Friday, April 4, 2008 at her residence. She was a native of Haywood County, where she had lived most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Norman Crawford and Nellie Bly Green James, Sr. and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Mark Marion Ferguson, second husband, Charles McDonald and her third husband, Foster Ferguson, a son, Jerry Ferguson and a grandson, Chris Ferguson one sister and three brothers. She attended Carson-Newman College and ran Ferguson Supply for several years before handing the store over to her sons and becoming an insurance agent. She was a member of Fines Creek Memorial Baptist since she was 12 years old and was a charter member of the Daughters of the American Revolution- Hugh Rogers Chapter. She was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party and supported her party with enthusiasm. She was county council president of community development clubs, member of the hospital auxiliary, Heeko Club, Red Eagle Extension Club and Pawhuska, OK Federation of Democrat Womens Club. Lucy loved to have family and friends into her home. She is survived by a daughter, Regina Rogers and her husband, Bill, of Waynesville; a son, James Mark Ferguson of Fines Creek; a sister, Hilda Pauline James, of Statesville; one brother, N. C. James, Jr. and his wife Francis of Statesville, eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2008 at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend James Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. At other times, the family will be at Lucy's residence. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Ferguson, Steve Ferguson, Charles Rogers, Neil Ferguson, Bill Fricks, Marion Ferguson, Jeffrey Ferguson, David Rogers, Brian Rogers and Marquis Ferguson. Memorials may be made to Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 196 Rainy Branch Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
