Lucy Crowell

Lucy Nell Woodbery Crowell died on August 13, 2018 in Candler, NC. She was born in
Albemarle, NC on October 30, 1929 to Alton Parker Woodbery and Jean Hazel Sasser
Woodbery. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Alexander Crowell, a sister, Betty
Jean Baity, and two brothers, John Wayne Woodbery and Alton Keith Woodbery. She is
survived by a brother, Ronald Samuel Woodbery, and her four children: Linda Crowell Ball and
husband Tom of New Castle, NH, Michael Alexander Crowell and wife Deborah of Asheville,
NC, Alan Wayne Crowell of Salvisa, KY, and Elizabeth Anne Crowell Banks and husband Ivan of
Petroleum, WV, 17 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
Lucy was a graduate of Sand Hill High School and attended Asheville Biltmore College.
She was an active member of Acton United Methodist Church, serving as church treasurer for
many years, singing in the choir, and working on committees as long as she was able. For most
of her adult life, she helped manage the family dairy farm and participated in many farm
organizations and activities. In her later years, she resided at the Pisgah Valley Retirement
Community and enjoyed staying active with friends and family until the very end of her life.
A memorial service will be held at Acton Church on Sunday, September 2 at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Acton United Methodist Church, 171 Sand Hill
School Rd., Asheville, NC 28806 or Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry
(ABCCM) 20 Twentieth St., Asheville, NC 28806.
