Lucy Best

Crabtree Community, Lucy Rich Best, age 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.

A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Houston and Carrie Lanning Rich.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Best, who died in 2011; a sister; and six brothers.  Lucy and Kenneth (Ken) lived in Crabtree for 60 years and ran a farm raising Angus cattle.  Lucy was a very proud and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Lucy is survived by a daughter, Tammy Wells (Billy Dover); two sons, Kenneth Best (Brenda), and Tootie Best (Kim), all of Crabtree; a brother, Leroy Rich; twelve grandchildren, Chris Best, Jackie Best, Justin Wells and Hannah, Chelsie Wells, Michael Ford, Chris and Amy Dover, Carrie and Jacob Hollifield, Matthew Ford, Courtney and Jeremy Landt, Jacob Best, Cody Wells and Braxton Best; seven great-grandchildren, Harley Dover, Carson Dover, Bristol Wells, Coleman Wells, Timber Lanning, Jaxon Hollifield and Annaleigh Landt; three sister-in-laws, Hilda Gibson, of Canton, Edna Lentz, of Waynesville and Louise McSwain(Devon), of Mooresville, North Carolina; and a special nephew and nieces, Eyvonne and Tommy Rich and Margaret Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2020 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Upper Crabtree Community Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2020 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.  At other times the family will be at 26 Boat Drive (Lucy’s home).

The care of Mrs. Best has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
