Lucille Cope

Lucille Margaret Justice McElrath Cope, age 86, of Freedom Drive died Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Haywood County but spent the majority of her life in Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late William and Beatrice Messer Justice and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Moody McElrath who died in 1996; her second husband, Cecil K. Cope, who died in 1991; and a son, Paul Douglas McElrath, She was of the Baptist faith and attended Living Hope Church. Lucille had a special place in her heart for her many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildern, and great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed working in her garden and watching WWE wrestling. She is survived by six daughters, Mary Reece and her husband, Max, of Warne, Barbara Miller and her husband, Terry, of Candler, Phyllis A. McElrath, of Canton, Martha Pitts and her husband, Homer, of Candler; Audrey Worley and her husband, Douglas, of Acworth, GA, Vicky Donaldson and her husband, Roger, of Hayesville; three sons, Bobby Joe McElrath and his wife, Doris, and Max McElrath and his wife, Debbie, all of Canton, and Richard Cope and his wife, Kim, of Campobello, SC; three brothers, Paul Justice and his wife, Violet, of Centralia, WA, Roy Ramsey and his wife, Irene, of Franklin, and Woodrow Justice of Roanoke, VA; 32 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Gregory D. Cope officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence of Phyllis McElrath or Barbara Miller.
