Louise Sloan

April 30, 1923 — January 16, 2003

Waynesville-Louise Spires Sloan, age 79, formerly of 10 Sloan Drive died Thursday, January 16, 2003 in a Southern Pines, NC nursing home.

She was a native of Columbia, South Carolina and was the daughter of the late Harvey Wade and Lureen Hutto Spires. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Joseph Sloan, who died in 1990. She was an avid bridge player, and she and her late husband were directors of the Waynesville Duplicate Bridge Club. She was a recipient of the Life Master Bridge Player. She was active in the Waynesville Historical Society and the Waynesville Flower Show and had participated in Girl Scouts in the communities in which she resided. She was a member of the Friends of the Library and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jo Perkins, and her husband, Bill, of Carthage, North Carolina and Dr. Sarah Ann Kreutziger and her husband, Dr. Keith Kreutziger, of Metairie, Louisiana; one brother, Harvy W. Spires, Jr. of Swansea, NC; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2003 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend John Christy officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
