Canton – Louise Medford Miller, 90, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
Louise was a daughter of the late Urby Wesley and Caddie Warren Medford and was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Cecil Miller, who died in 2018; one grandson, Kenny Lynn Johnson; five sisters, Kate Smathers, Sybil Roberts, Lura Mae West, Thelma Inman and Rose Ellen Hames; and four brothers, Paul, Lane, Joe and Calvin Medford. Louise worked in the cafeteria of Morning Star Elementary and Pennsylvania Avenue Elementary schools for many years and fixed many meals for the children of Haywood County. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening with her husband and taking many walks with Cecil.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen Johnson and husband, Ken, of Canton; one son, Russell Miller of Statesville; a sister, Maxine Liverman of Asheville; a brother, Dalton Medford and wife, Aileen, of Granite Falls; three grandsons, Kaleb Johnson and fiancé, Lacsey Davis, of Waynesville, Ryan Miller and Shane Miller and wife, Maggie, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and five granddaughters, Kendra Johnson and Keilah Britt (John), all of Canton, Tiffany Taylor (Zeb) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Cheridan and Charlotte Miller, both of Statesville; six great-grandsons, Zachary Ferguson, J.T. Britt, Perry Miller, Nolan Taylor, Holden and Scout Johnson, and one baby boy on the way; two great-grandaughters, Jada Taylor and Maddie Miller.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Western Carolina Veterans Cemetery with the Reverend Mike Hicks and the Reverend Jonathan Blaylock officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in memory of Louise to the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, P.O. Box 14608, Greensboro, NC 27415.
