Canton – Louis Warrner Bechtel, Jr.,75, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Charles George Veterans Medical Hospital in Asheville.
Lou was born in Pinner, England to the late Louis and Dorothy Fertich Bechtel and later relocated to Pennsylvania.
After obtaining his Master’s Degree at Tusculum University, Lou proudly served 4 years in the United States Marine Corp and retired as Director with the Department of Social Services after 42 years of service.
He was a faithful public servant and touched many lives in his community, always willing to help anyone in need. The adjectives to describe Lou are many. Just to name a few, he was patient, kind and had a great sense of humor. He loved his family dearly and was famous for his pancake breakfast and his Bechtel burgers. A diehard Dolphins fan, he wouldn’t miss a game. He was a devout Christian who loved reading his bible. His wife and sons will miss him deeply…"until we meet again".
Lou is survived by his wife of 27 years, Cathy Clampitt Bechtel; four sons, Jeffrey Bechtel (Kelsi) of Raleigh, Brent Jamison (Becky) of Roberts, Wisconsin, Brandon Jamison (Ginger) of Carolina Beach, and Blake Jamison (Audrey) of Sylva, and Jason Plotkowski (Melonie) of Virginia; and five grandchildren, Rylee Jamison, Sunny Jamison, Max Jamison, Bryce Jamison and Delaney Jamison.
A memorial service will be held at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 4:00 p.m., with Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home prior to the service from 2:30 – 4:00.
