Lorna Ledbetter Ashe

If you are reading this, it means that I have passed away.  I received a call, a special offer of sorts, an assignment from which I will not be returning.

I was born in 1959 to Mack and Ethel Watts Ledbetter, who preceded me in death, as well as my grandparents, Jonathan and Allie Chambers Ledbetter and William and Josephine Evitt Watts.  I also lost my precious sister, Deb Riggeal, gone way too soon, in 2019; and a brother, Doyle Ledbetter in 2022.

I am survived by my dear husband of 16 years, Denton Ashe, the most loving and kind person I’ve ever known; my beautiful daughter, Christi (Jonathan) Robertson and their children, Aidan, Liam, Kinneil, and Nola; a sister, Verda Davis; a niece Lauren (Josh) Gamber, a nephew, Nathan Riggeal, two great-nephews, Memphis and Atley Gamber, and a brother in law, Greg Riggeal.  My other grandchildren are Joey, Jacob, Faith, Eli, Luci, Mae, and Amelia Ashe and Levi Simms; their parents, Nathan (Jennifer), Chris (Heidi) and Timothy (Brooke) Ashe and Alina (Jimmy) Simms; my BFFs Maggie, Kila, Trudy, Lisa, Martha, Tammy and Sheila; and I can’t forget my fur babies, Ajax, my constant companion, Oreo the cat, and my precious cat, Comet, who recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

The greatest gift I ever received was the gift of salvation from my Lord and Saviour Jesus

Christ.  It is my fondest wish that you would accept this free gift as well, for we do not know how long we will have the chance to receive this while here on earth.

Some of my favorite things are playing piano, knitting, reading, watching old reruns of

Bewitched, and playing games on my iPad.  I also love going camping with Denton and Ajax, hiking, visiting Isle of Palms and Charleston, traveling to different places, and of course, Christmas, my favorite time of year.  One of the things I looked forward to most was being with my knitting group, who met twice a month at the Panacea to craft, knit, crochet, but mostly talk.

I was active in the Haywood County Relay for Life for many years, as a volunteer, first as a team captain and later as the Chairperson. It was a lot of hard work but I enjoyed raising money for such a worthy cause.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Riverside Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Frazier officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.

I would like to thank my medical team at Duke and Haywood Hospice for providing such excellent care during my illness.

Memorial may be made to the ALS Foundation, 4 N. Blount Street, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC  27601.

The care of Mrs. Ashe has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton and an online memorial register is available at "Obituaries" at www.wellsfuneralhome.com.
