Lloyd LaFountaine

Waynesville, Lloyd Lance LaFountaine, 68, who lived at 80-83 Candler St., died Friday, September 29, 2023, of a heart attack while in New York on a vacation tour.

He was born in Asheville, NC on January 21, 1955, and was the youngest son of Chester Eugene and Edna Lance LaFountaine.  He resided in Waynesville his entire life.

Lloyd is survived by brothers Chester (Kay), Edward (Judy) and sister Helen Pressley (J.B.); nieces Holly Shetty, Jennifer Campellone (Jay), Jill Drake (Shannon), Karen Ferris (Andy) and eight grand nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Tuscola High School in 1973, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He was a former employee of Skyline Distributors, BASF in Enka, and then worked at Ingles on Russ Ave until he retired in 2021.

Lloyd was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Waynesville where he frequently ushered.  He loved volunteering at Haywood Christian Ministry where he regularly worked with their food distribution program.

Lloyd was a jovial fellow who loved to visit with friends and hardly ever met a stranger.  He loved his cat Tabby, Duke basketball, traveling with Christian Tours, photography, his church, driving his car and his sister Helen and brothers Chet and Ed and their families.

A Celebration of his life will be held at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., with the Reverend Keith Turman officiating.  The family will receive friends beforehand from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the church.
