Clyde, L. J. Moore, age 83, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Arthur and Bertha Strickland Moore. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Shelba Jean Taylor. L.J. was a life-long educator in Haywood County. L.J. and Ruth were active members of Crabtree Baptist Church. For many years, L.J. taught Sunday School Class and served as a Deacon. He began his career at Waynesville Junior High, teaching 8th grade English. L.J. later was an instructor with the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles, teaching drivers education. His career in higher education concluded at Haywood Community College, where for many years he served as the Dean of Continuing Education. In his spare time, L.J. enjoyed woodworking and tending to his garden.
L. J. is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Gillett Moore; daughter, Kim Rhodes (Scott Murphy), of Huntersville, North Carolina; sister, Carolyn McClure (Jim), of Waynesville; brother, Reverend David Moore, of Spartanburg, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Sarah Finegan (Andrew) and Jacob Murphy; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019 at Crabtree Baptist Church with Reverend David Moore and Reverend Barry Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Rick McClure, Randy McClure, Kenny McClure, Austin McClure, Dealane Taylor and Andrew Finegan.

The care of Mr. Moore has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
