Linda Carolyn Deaver Singleton, 80, of Canton, was called home to the Lord on April 23, 2026. She was born on June 25, 1945, to Nicie Stamey Deaver and Roy Morris Deaver in Waynesville. Linda faced an ongoing battle with dementia over the past several years, which eventually claimed her last Thursday afternoon, but despite the terrible disease, she never wavered in who she was.
Linda graduated with an RN-BSN from Mars Hill University, which contributed to her thirty-five-year selfless career as a nurse. She worked at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, Haywood Regional Medical Center, for Dr. David Dyer, and served as Patient Care Coordinator at Home Health. Linda was a faithful member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Canton, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for more than thirty-five years. Linda was always involved in the church and was the first to pray for anyone who needed it, affectionately earning her the title of Prayer Warrior. She reminded everyone she interacted with that Jesus loved them, and she did too.
Linda was a living example of Jesus in everything she did, which was her main goal in life. Her kindness, compassion, and sharp mind were just some of the things that could be used to describe her. When she wasn’t reading her Bible, she could be found doing crossword puzzles and spending time with her three granddaughters, who were her pride and joy and her second favorite topic to talk about, after Jesus.
Linda is predeceased by her brother, Michael Terry Deaver, and her husband, Steve Oscar Singleton. She is survived by her beloved only child, Stephanie Singleton Stines; her “best-son-in-law,” Pete Stines; her three granddaughters, Sophie Stines, Josie Stines, and Aubrie Stines; her sister-in-law, Gloria Deaver; and her lifelong best friend, whom she loved like a sister, Janice Wright.
Funeral services for Linda Singleton will be held at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, located in Canton, N.C. on Friday, May 1st at 12:00 pm with Pastor Heath Davis officiating. The visitation will be held 2 hours prior starting at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery.
Linda Singleton has been entrusted to the care of Wells Funeral Home in Canton, where flowers can be sent.
