Leona Williams Franklin, age 96, a former resident of Sayles Road died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the daughter of late Walter and Nettie Pressley Williams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Isaac Franklin who died November 5, 1990; a son, John A. Berry who died in 1991; a twin sister, Rowena Buckner; and a sister, Junnie Bell Revis. She was employed for 40 years with American Enka Corp. as a supervisor. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and had the longest church membership. Leona loved gardening and flowers. She is survived by a foster daughter-in-law, Tulon Berry of Hollywood, FL; three foster grandchildren; three foster great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2007, at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Perry Brindley and Reverend Jimmy Burress officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of her niece and her husband, Ramona and Frank Blaylock, 215 Mundy Field Road, Canton. Memorials may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, 261 Dix Creek Road, Canton, NC 28716. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
