Lenoir Hipps

Canton - Lenoir Wesley Hipps, age 71, died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Smoky Mountain Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. A native of Jackson County, he was a son of the late Lovell H. and Nannie Mae Nations Hipps. He was employed by Champion International as a rewinder operator with 34 years of service before retiring in 1999. Lenoir was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre. Lenoir was a lover of all animals, enjoyed spending time with children, poetry and was an accomplished woodworker. He was loving and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He is survived by one son, Kevin D. Hipps and his wife Traci of Canton; one daughter, Gaylyn D. Hill and her husband Steve of Canton; two sisters, Lois Elliott and Ardith Brown and her husband John, all of Canton; four brothers, James D. Hipps and his wife Marie of Fairview, Paul R. Hipps and his wife Lillian of Mills River; John B Hipps and his wife Judy and Lonnie Hipps and his wife Carolyn all of Canton; and four grandchildren; Rorey and Kristen Hipps and Enoch and Esther Hill. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Ensley and Reverend Terry Penland officiating. Burial will follow in Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. Memorials may be made to Crestview Baptist Church Mission Fund, 3258 Pisgah Drive. Canton, NC 28716.
