January 18, 1952 – December 24, 2018
Lauranne Laws Humphreys, 66, of Waynesville, North Carolina, peacefully departed this earthly life and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 24, 2018. Her final days were at the CarePartners Solace Center Hospice facility in Asheville, NC where she received loving care and was able to spend time with family and friends.
Lauranne was born in Montgomery, Alabama on January 18, 1952. She graduated from Winter Park High School in Winter Park, Florida in 1970. Lauranne graduated from Auburn University with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and then earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida.
Lauranne retired in 2011 after working for 30 years as a classroom teacher in Florida. She taught in several different areas, including emotionally handicapped students at the middle school level and advanced students in the International Baccalaureate Program at the high school level.
Lauranne and husband Bill moved from Palm Harbor, Florida to Waynesville in 2011. Her favorite activities in retirement were serving as a temporary Mom to her grandson Matthew Humphreys for four years, visiting children and grandchildren, being a member of the S.A.L.T. Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, and serving as a Kiwanian in the Waynesville Kiwanis Club.
To Lauranne the most important things in life were faith and family. Lauranne committed her life to Christ while participating in a Campus Crusade for Christ rally in Florida in her late teenage years. In 2009 Lauranne and Bill were invited to participate in an Episcopal Cursillo Weekend in the Southwestern Diocese of Florida; joining the Cursillo community was another lifechanging experience for both Lauranne and Bill. Lauranne would like to be remembered as a child of God and disciple of Christ as well as a loving daughter to her parents Bev and Katie Laws, a loving sister to Rhea, Charlie, Janie, and Kathy, and a loving mother and grandmother (Granny).
Lauranne is survived by her husband, Bill; her mother Katie Walls Laws, of Houston; son Rob Liddell and wife Carrie and grandchildren Callie, Graham, Sarah Kate and Emily; son Jay Liddell and wife Norell and grandchildren Julianna and Finnean; son Glenn Humphreys and wife Robyn and grandchildren Matthew, Breanne Cypert (husband Nathan, and son Owen), Alexandra, Jaxon, Luke and Evan; son Todd Humphreys and wife Jessica and grandson Alexander.
