Obituary

Kevin Shawn Smiley, age 60, passed away unexpectedly following an accident on a mountaintop on October 1, 2026.

A native of Mayfield, Kentucky, Kevin was born on November 30, 1965, to Danny Gene Smiley and the late Bobbie Alexander Smiley.

Kevin was a hardworking man who could seemingly fix, build, or figure out just about anything. He was the owner of K&K Improvements, where his gift as an electrician allowed him to serve and help many people throughout the area. He was formerly the owner of Electrical Circuits Unlimited and had also worked in heating and air conditioning, blockwork, and solar panel installation. A true jack of all trades, Kevin took pride in working with his hands and in being able to lend his skills wherever they were needed.

Away from work, Kevin was happiest outdoors. He loved being in the woods, hunting and fishing, and riding his Harley. At the time of his passing, he was in the process of building a log cabin, a fitting place for a man who found so much enjoyment and peace in the outdoors.

Kevin was easy to get along with and never seemed to meet a stranger. He had many friends and was always willing to help someone who needed it. His generosity went far beyond lending a helping hand. Kevin would sometimes bring people into his own home, giving them a safe place to stay and an opportunity to get back on their feet until they were ready to move forward on their own. Helping others was simply part of who he was.

Above all, Kevin was a devoted husband and father. He met his wife, Pamela Kent, in 1982, and the two shared 44 years of marriage. They celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on the very day Kevin's accident occurred. Together, they built a life filled with family, hard work, friendship, and countless memories. Kevin was a good husband, a good father, and a man who cared deeply for those around him.

Kevin is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Kent Smiley; daughter, Melissa Dawn Smiley; son, Michael William Shawn Smiley; grandchildren, Jackson Romero, Luna Romero, Trent Fleming, Sheyenne Fleming, Savannah Fleming, Brooklyn Fleming, Landon Fleming, and Allissa Norton; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Tiffany Smiley and Brittany Mitchell; and parents-in-law, Roy and Irene Kent.

Kevin will be remembered as a hardworking and capable man, an outdoorsman, a loyal friend, and someone who was always willing to help. His life was defined not only by what he could build with his hands, but by the lives he touched through his generosity and willingness to give others a place to turn.

A private graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Monday, October 12, 2026.

The care of Mr. Smiley has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home at Forest Lawn.
