Kent Browning

Canton – Dewayne Kent Browning, age 58, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at his residence.

Kent was born October 31, 1962 and was a lifelong resident of Haywood County. He was the son of Roy Richard Browning and the late Emma Sue Sales.  Kent enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family, and working on the farm with his father for thirty years.  He sold crops to the local community and is remembered as being not only a farmer, but a loving and kind gentleman.

He graduated from Pisgah High School in 1981, where he played basketball for three years Kent loved sports.  He played church league softball for 20 years and coached Bethel youth league football for four years and Bethel Middle School basketball for one year.  He loved the Pisgah Black Bears and UNC Tar Heels.

Kent is survived by his father, Roy Browning and his stepmom, Donna Grogan Browning; a daughter, Anna Marie Gath (Kevin), of Charlotte, NC; two sons, Thomas Kent Browning and Josh Darovitz; his friend and mother of his children, Maria Browning; sister; Lynette Browning (Richard Elingburg); two brothers, James Browning (Devon) and Scott Browning (Sabrina) all of Canton; and four grandchildren, Paula, Sage, Carey and Jackson.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Canton with the Reverend Dr. Dan Page officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
