Kenneth Lowe

Canton – Kenneth Lowe, 89, of the Bethel Community, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Harris Regional Medical Center.

Ken was born on June 2, 1933 to the late Dolph and Allie Tabor Lowe in Swain County.  When Ken was in the sixth grade, he moved to Bethel with his family.  Ken was a member of the first Bethel High School football team and scored the first touchdown on a pass from his brother.  He was a graduate of the Class of 1951 and a proud United States Army veteran who served at the end of the Korean Conflict.  Upon his return, Ken married Mary June Riddle on December 27, 1955, and was employed with Champion Paper where he retired with 42 years of service.  Ken loved spending time with his family and was a wonderful dad and granddad.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary June Lowe; son, Tim (Terry) Lowe; daughters Karen (Cecil) Young, Lorraine (Bob) Green, and Shawn (Stephen) Parris; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Chip) Cody, Dara (Alvin) Sanders, Kendra (Stephen) Plemmons, Lindsey (Nate) Brooks, Chandler (Dakota) Sharpe, Logan Green, Cassie (Dalton) King, and Cabe Green; nine great-grandchildren, Lucas, Ella and Jade Cody, Cora, Addison, and Trey Sanders, Krew and Ketch Plemmons, Zane Brooks; and a sister, Dorothy McDaniel.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Bethel Community Cemetery with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating.
