Kenneth Lee Henson, age 74, of Conyers, Georgia, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, under the tender care of Brightmoor Hospice.
A native of Buncombe County, North Carolina, Kenneth was born on September 5, 1952, to the late Carroll Ray Henson and the late Dorothy “Hope” Anders Henson. He was proud of his Western North Carolina roots and carried with him the values of hard work, family, and service throughout his life.
Kenneth proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He completed basic training at Fort Bragg and entered military service at just 17 years old. On his 18th birthday, he was deployed to Vietnam. During his military service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and other medals and recognitions in honor of his faithful service to his country.
Following his military service, Kenneth worked as an owner-operator truck driver hauling heavy equipment. He played a role in the construction of Interstate 20 through Georgia toward Birmingham and operated his trucking business for more than 20 years. His career allowed him to travel throughout most, if not all, of the contiguous United States. Among his favorite routes were the long hauls to the West Coast, where he enjoyed seeing the country and experiencing life on the open road.
Outside of work, Kenneth embraced life with enthusiasm and adventure. He especially enjoyed snow skiing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and spending time with animals, particularly his beloved dogs. A devoted NASCAR fan, he spent much of his younger adult life at the racetrack and proudly cheered for his favorite drivers, Harry Gant and Dale Earnhardt Sr.
Those who knew Kenneth best will remember his zest for life, independent spirit, and ability to tackle just about any challenge that came his way. A true jack-of-all-trades, he was always willing to lend a hand, share his knowledge, or take on a new project with confidence and determination.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll Ray Henson and Dorothy “Hope” Anders Henson; and his brother, Michael Ray Henson;
Left behind to cherish Kenneth's memory are his brothers and sisters, Willis Carroll Henson (Patricia) of Alexander, North Carolina; Alvin Kay Henson of Florida; Luanne Haney (Buddy) of Florida; Thomas R. Henson of Stockbridge, Georgia; and Charles E. Henson (Anne) of McDonough, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Sheldon Henson, Michelle Henson, Ashley Henson, Todd Henson, Trent Henson, Misty Henson, Melody Henson, Stephanie Henson, Darren Haney, Heather Henson, Kyle Henson, Charles M. Henson, and Haley M. Buroughs; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Kenneth will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will continue to live on through the family and friends who loved him and the many lives he touched throughout his journey.
A graveside funeral service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1 Chapel of Faith Drive, Candler, North Carolina 28715.
The care of Mr. Henson has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home at Forest Lawn in Candler.
