Kathy Akers

Waynesville, Kathy Ann Akers, age 62, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Memorial Mission Hospital.

A resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Loretta Blair Farnham; in addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie, and Danny Akers.  Kathy was a beloved wife, mother, MiMi, sister, and friend.  She adored all animals and cherished her weekly trips to various restaurants with her friends and family.  On Saturday’s, Kathy and Lisa were front and center cheering on their Florida Gator football team, she rarely missed a game, and even colored her hair blue to show allegiance to the Gators.  It was the role of MiMi that enriched Kathy’s life.  Her beloved grandchildren buoyed her spirits and gave her such joy.

Kathy is survived by the love of her life and wife of 18 years, Lisa Akers, of Waynesville; daughter, Kayla Lopez, and her husband, Simon, of Waynesville; brother, Darrell Kenneth “Ken” Akers, and his wife, Jennifer, of Cherokee, North Carolina; father, Donald Farnham, of Auburndale, Florida; mother-in-law, Suzanne Scott, and her husband, Don, of Debary, Florida; three sister-in-law’s, Brittany Huston, and her husband, Matt, of Lake Mary, Florida, Ashley Evans, and her husband, Jamie, of Oviedo, Florida, and Karen Mickel, of High Springs, Florida; three grandchildren, Blair, Oliver, and Ariely; four nephews and two nieces.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Rhinehart officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Dawn Memory Garden.  The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The care of Mrs. Akers has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
