Kathleen Smith

Waynesville, Kathleen Palmer Smith, age 90, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Maggie Valley Nursing Home & Rehabilitation.

A native of Cataloochee, she was a daughter of the late Kimsey Palmer and Beatrice Burgess Sisk.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard H. Smith who died in 2008; and a sister, Katie Coin.  Kathleen and Leonard were faithful members of Woodland Baptist Church.  They were active in Sunday School and participated in many of the senior outings throughout the year.  As a native of Little Cataloochee, Kathleen cherished her visits to view the elk.  Kathleen loved Mexican food, and strawberry milkshakes from Jukebox Junction and enjoyed word search puzzles.  A special time was corresponding by letter and mailing cards on birthdays.

Kathleen is survived by a daughter, Wanda Snyder, and husband, Jack, of Stockton, California; two sons, Lowell Buchanan, and his wife, Ellen, of Jacksonville, Florida and Charles Buchanan, and his wife, Pam, of Sevierville, Tennessee; a brother, Kenneth Palmer, of Lake Junaluska; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
