Katherine Whitaker

Toccoa, Georgia formerly of Canton – Katherine Louise Thomason Whitaker, 91, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at her residence.

Katherine was a native of Haywood County and the daughter of the late Lawrence and Scottie Stamey Thomason. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mst. Sgt. USAF Retired, Kenneth Whitaker, who passed away in 2013; a son, Ricky Dennis Whitaker; and a daughter, Shelia Carol Roberson. Katherine worked in education for most of her life as a teachers aid and was a member of West Canton Baptist Church also attended Toccoa Assembly of God in Georgia.

She is survived by a son, Kenneth S. Whitaker (Susan) of Toccoa, Georgia; sister, Wanda Murray (Larry) of Canton; two brothers, Bruce Thomason (Mary) of Canton and Sherrill Thomason (Brenda) of Tennessee; four grandchildren, Katy and Kenley Whitaker of Toccoa, Jesse Whitaker (Ann) of Guam, and Greg Whitaker (Alexis) of Camden, Delaware; and three great-grandchildren, Lily and Wesley Whitaker of Guam and Levi Whitaker of Camden, Delaware; and several special nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Joe Stedman officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

The care of Mrs. Whitaker has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Canton.
