Waynesville, Mary Katherine Hamilton Robinson, 95, died on July 3, 2018. She was born on March 10, 1923, in the East LaPorte community of Jackson County to Patrick Hagan Hamilton and Bertie Marie Short. She graduated from Western Carolina University in 1944 with a degree in elementary education. In 1955 she married George Ray Robinson, who preceded her in death in 1988.
After moving to Haywood County she taught sixth and seventh grades at Waynesville Middle School and Hazelwood Elementary for 40 years. She enjoyed encouraging and challenging her students.
Katherine was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed the traditional shape note singing she learned from her father. Her positive outlook was shown in an easy smile and a gentle laugh, and she was committed to bringing joy to the lives of others. She was an active and dedicated member of the North Carolina Association of Educators and the Long's Chapel United Methodist Church choir. She enjoyed crafts, reading, music, sports, and domestic and international travel, and was always open to a new experience or adventure. She had a particular love of poetry and sprinkled her conversation with lines from favorite poems.
Mrs. Robinson is survived by her son, Dr. Ron Robinson, and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Heidi Campbell-Robinson of Spartanburg, SC, and Waynesville, NC, and nieces Rose Hooper Garrett, Marsha Hooper Holder, Kathy Smith Franklin, Sheila Franklin Whitmire, Zelda Franklin Sims and Wanda Lawson. She was preceded in death by her brother Earnest and sisters Ethel, Juanita, Edith and Lorine.
