Katherine "Kathi" Watson (Mccavitt) 68, peacefully journeyed to join our Heavenly Father on August 28, 2025. She was born on June 27, 1957 to Frankie and Robert Mccavitt. She was a native of Waynesville, NC.
Kathi attended Tuscola High School, graduated from WNC University and became a paralegal for 40 years, excelling in her field.
She met Larry Watson in 1989, and they were married shortly thereafter. They welcomed a baby girl in the winter of 1990. In 1993, they moved back to Larry's hometown of Canton, NC, where they created a home to build their life together. They were married for 24 years before he passed.
She was a fiercely dedicated wife, mother, sister, and daughter. A devout Christian, who volunteered much of herself to her church and community, particularly through Vacation Bible School for children. Her love for animals defined her deep, unyielding compassion. In her younger years, she co-founded The Haywood County Humane Society with Burt Green and was the caretaker for innumerable furry friends throughout her lifetime.
Her favorite time of year, like so many others, was Christmas. A modern-day Donna Reed, she enjoyed her extensive collection of Santa Claus variants, baking treats for the family, and lovingly decorating the mantel with her replica of the town of Bedford Falls from her favorite Christmas movie, "It's A Wonderful Life."
In her youth, after her shifts as a waitress at the Steak 'n' Keg, you could catch her line dancing, or at the disco, or likely a KISS concert. As a young woman, she didn't have the cash to fix her Camaro, so she attended a mechanics course at Haywood Community College and learned to rebuild the engine herself, but that's the kind of woman Kathi was: Never say never.
She loved baseball, music, the study of language, and crafts.
She was an avid reader, masterful writer, and clever storyteller. She was a skilled seamstress, and chocolate connoisseur, and, of course, possessed stinging-sharp wit abetted by a superb sense of humor.
Kathi was a stoic and an incredible force, nay slowed by doubt or challenge, and anyone who had the honor of knowing her knew this. She touched many lives in her 68 summers. She was genuine, she was beautiful, and she was home.
She is survived by; her daughter, her best friend and her biggest fan Sydni Watson Anger and her husband Travis Anger, and a grandson, Finnegan Anger; Three doting brothers, Larry, Steve and his wife Sue, and Joe and his wife Billie; two, loving stepdaughters, Leslie and her husband Brian, and Amy; Two sweet nieces, Katie and Allie (Joe) and two gracious nephews, Aaron and Robbie (Steve); as well as four incredible step-grandchildren, Dillon and Chloe (Leslie) Jacob, and Levi (Amy)
To honor Kathi and her immense compassion for God's creatures, if so inclined to make a donation or send flowers, the family asks to, instead, donate to your local, no-kill, animal shelter or adopt a furry best friend.
There will be no formal service at this time. Instead, please opt to celebrate Kathi in your own way, uniquely, much like your relationship with her. Dedicate a moment for just the two of you.
The care of Mrs. Watson has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
