Clyde-Karen Marie Silverthorne, age 35, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Waynesville on Tuesday, February 8, 2005. She was born in Phoenix, Arizona and moved to Haywood County in 1995. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Charles Kastl. She was employed at First United Methodist Church Daycare and previously worked as latchkey teacher at Clyde Elementary School. She was a member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church where she helped in children's church. She loved music and writing poetry. She is survived by her parents, Grady and Carolee Kastl Silverthorne of Clyde; a stepbrother, Terry Silverthorne of Phoenix, AZ; two stepsisters, Lauri Thatcher and Sherry Jenkins, also of Phoenix, AZ; her maternal grandmother, Carolyn Kastl of Clyde; two uncles, Charles Kastl, Jr. of Oregon and William B. Silverthorne of SC; an aunt, Christine McCoy, of VA; and her fiancé, Dale Lanning, of Waynesville. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2005 at Clyde Central United Methodist Church with Reverend Randy Tingle and Reverend James Hart officiating.
