Julius Ross

Waynesville, Julius Paul Ross, 94, passed away on June 28, 2019 at his home.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Hilliard W. and Sarah Ferguson Ross.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Ross and his sister, Mary Holder.

Julius attended Western Carolina University and earned his degree in 1951 with a major in Chemistry and a minor in Math.  Much of his career was at Dayco International where he worked for seventeen years before transitioning to full time farming.  He was at his happiest when working on the farm and tending to his livestock.  His favorite past time was attending the Cattle Market and watching basketball.  He was an enthusiastic fan of Duke Blue Devils.  Julius was a member of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church.  He was a deeply loving and devoted husband, father, Papaw, uncle, good neighbor, and loyal friend.

Julius is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Green Ross; four daughters, Kay Prowler (Chuck) of Crabtree, Cathy Szendrei (Eric) of Maine, Rebecca McFadden (Doug) of Florida, and Sara Jane Galvin (Mark) of Crabtree; Four Grandchildren, Rebecca Pearl Nester (Ricky), Ross Szendrei, Charlie and William McFadden; and a Great Grandson, Julius Worth Nester.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Tim McConnell and Reverend John Ferree officiating.  Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
