Waynesville, Judy McElroy Bradley Barnes, age 76, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late James and Louise Nichols McElroy. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Haynes, Shirley Roberts, and Barbara Medford; and her brother, Bobby McElroy.
For many years, Judy was an Assistant Supervisor at Haywood Vocational Opportunities and enjoyed helping others reach their potential. She was of the Baptist faith and truly a woman who loved the Lord. Judy had wonderful friends who will miss being with her and was a Mamaw that was always there for her grandkids. Judy was a big fan of the Braves, she was thrilled when the Braves were crowned World Series Champions in 2021.
Judy is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Dale Barnes; her dear daughter, Lavon Swanger of Waynesville; two treasured grandchildren, Kendra Johnston (Jeremy) and Jarred Swanger, several special nieces and nephews; and her sweetheart of a dog, Pablo the chihuahua.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Davis Plemmons officiating. Burial will follow at Old Bon-A-Venture Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
The care of Mrs. Barnes has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
