Joyce Thompson

Canton, Joyce Elaine Holland Thompson, age 72, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, peacefully at her residence.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Samuel and Marjorie Beatrice Stevens Holland.  In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by an infant son, James Thompson, Jr. and her husband, James Thompson, who passed away in 2003.

Joy faithfully practiced her profession as a nurse for 35 years.  When she was not assisting others in the workplace, she was the consummate caretaker for her family, too.  She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend always willing to lend a helping hand.  Although she was not into sports herself, she faithfully attended her two boy’s athletic pursuits from elementary through high school.  Joy adored animals but was partial to cats.  Although she did not swim, family vacations to the beach were her favorite.  Joy loved the smell of the sea air, the waves, and walking on the sand.

Joy is survived by her two sons, Kent Thompson, and his wife, Taryn and Travis Thompson, and his wife, Kristy, both of Canton; two sisters, Rita Mathews, and her husband, Charles, and Wanda Stockton, both of Canton; three beloved grandchildren, Kade, Kirstin, and Aven; and her companion, Ronnie Childs.

Private services will be held for Joy and entombment will take place at The Horizon at Crawford-Ray Memorial Gardens.

The care of Mrs. Thompson has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
