Joyce Ann Barnes, a cherished resident of Candler, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, following a lengthy illness. Joyce was born in Buncombe County, NC, to the late Emmett Franklin Wright and Merle Anders Wright. She is also predeceased by her five brothers: Emmett Jr., Clarence, Dan, Joe, and David Wright.

Joyce is survived by her son, John Barnes, her daughter, Stephanie Kennedy and her spouse, Robin and sister, Alice Plemmons. She is also remembered with love by her two grandchildren, Zachary Barnes and Amy Coley.

Joyce had a lifelong passion for horses, which she lovingly shared with her children. She found joy in fishing and camping at Lake Hiawassee and Lake Chatuge, cherishing every moment spent with her family. Professionally, she dedicated 30 years to Champion International in Canton before her retirement. Later, she enjoyed working at Ingles in Candler.

Joyce’s legacy is one of love and dedication to her family, community, and the Lord. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her.

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at Balsam Baptist Church Cementary at 3:00 pm with Pastor Lee Brooks officiating. 

The care of Joyce Barnes has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
