Joseph Taylor, Jr.

August 16, 1943 — February 3, 2023

Waynesville

Waynesville – Joseph Euel Taylor, Jr.  beloved husband, father, and Papa passed away on February 3, 2023, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

Joe was a native of Greenville County, South Carolina, but resided in Haywood County for much of his life.   He was the son of the late Joseph Euel and Blanche Langley Taylor.  In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Taylor, who passed away in 1994 and one brother, Randy Taylor.  Joe knew at a young age he would be following in his father’s footsteps.  Graduating from Mars Hills with a degree in accounting, and fulfilling his duties to the National Guard, Joe joined his father at Taylor Motor Company.  Along with his successful dealership, Joe was instrumental in the development of several properties in Franklin, Hendersonville, and Waynesville.  Joe also served on the board of directors for Haywood Savings and Loan and Old Town Bank.  He was a proud Papa to his grandson, loyal friend, and filled with wisdom.  Although he was a man of few words, when he spoke, you listened.

Joe is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 57 years, Carolyn Taylor, of Waynesville; son, Joel Taylor, Kristin, of Waynesville; and beloved grandson, Lucas Taylor.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Waynesville.  Joe was laid to rest at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SARGE’S Animal Rescue Foundation, PO Box 854, Waynesville, NC 28786 or First Baptist Church of Waynesville, Chapel Maintenance Fund, PO Box 690, Waynesville, NC 28786.
