Joseph "Roger" Garceau was born November 22, 1949, in Webster, Massachusetts to the late Byron and Marie Gingras Garceau. He attended Bartlett High School in Webster, MA. He joined the US Army after high school and completed two tours of duty during the Vietnam War, in 1967 and 1968. He returned to home to Dudley, MA where he met and married the love of his life, Charolett Garceau. Together, they raised 3 sons.
Joe was a passionate outdoorsman and shared his love for fishing, hunting, camping and sport-shooting with his 3 sons, grandson, and friends throughout his life. He was an NRA Certified Instructor for many years. He worked for the New England Telephone (Verizon) for over 20 years. Upon retiring from New England Telephone, he joined the Quinebaug Volunteer Fire Department. He served his community there until moving to Asheville, North Carolina in 2016 to be nearer to his son and grandson. In North Carolina, Joe became close with a circle of friends at "The Miami" coffeeshop.
Joe passed away peacefully on December 8, 2018, in the Charles George VA Medical Center after battling cancer.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Charolett Garceau; two sons, Spencer Garceau and Michael (Gail) LePage; 2 grandsons, Benjamin and Kristopher LePage; sister, Jovette Gauthier of Southbridge, MA; brother, Michael Garceau (Mary) of Woodstock, CT; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by son, Eric LePage. He is also survived by life-long friend, Bernie Chausse of Barefoot Bay, FL, and dedicated dog, Charlie.
The family expresses a special note of thanks to the hospice team at Charles George VA Medical Center for their phenomenal care and compassion. Donations can be made to the Autism Society of NC.
