Jonathan Andrew DeGrove

Born in Jacksonville, FL, September 5, 1954, to John and Gail DeGrove. He was a 7th generation Florida “cracker”.

 

Died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, May 11,2024

at the age of 69.

 

Andy grew up in Boca Raton, FL where he loved surfing, camping on the beach, riding motorcycles and listening to good music.

 

He served in the Navy 1974-1978 as an E-5 Aviation Structural Mechanic at NAS JAX, in Jacksonville, FL.

 

Andy then attended Western Carolina University achieving a Bachelor and Master Degree in Industrial Technology. He worked for WCU for 33 years as a project manager/ engineer and maintenance superintendent, overseeing many upgrades at the university.

 

He loved cooking, good beer, the comical drama of professional wrestling, and good times. Andy excelled as a husband, father, friend, mentor and pure badass.

 

Survived by his wife Carolyn of 40 years, son Max, daughter Jenna, his sister Kim, brother Jim and their families, the DeGrove clan, and his many lifelong friends. He will be greatly missed.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024 with Reverend Holly Davis officiating. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a scholarship fund in memory of Andy to the College of Engineering and Technology at Western Carolina University, 1 University Drive, 201 HF Robinson Building, Cullowhee, NC  28723 (Payable to WCU Foundation) or give.wcu.edu/degrove

 

The care of Mr. DeGrove has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
