John Spence

Clyde – John Spence, 83, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Mission Memorial Campus.

John was a native of Buncombe County and a son of the late Walter Joseph and Nora Marie VanHook Spence.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Haruko Spence, who died in 2019.  John was a United States Navy veteran with 30 years of service.  He also loved feeding birds, taking in stray animals, and listening to music.

He is survived by a son, Robert Spence and Tammy Rostov of Richmond, Virginia; two grandchildren, Joshua Aaron Spence (Julia Rose Dugger) and Samantha Kay Southall (Frank); and one great-grandchild, Mia Ray Southall.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home in Canton.
