Waynesville, John Everett Penny, Jr., age 67, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Mountain View Manor Nursing Home.

Born of Fulton County, Georgia he was a son of the late Dr. John Everett and Harriett Davis Penny.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Steven W. Penny.  John was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army serving in the Vietnam Era.  John retired after 15 years with Champion Papers.  John always had a smile on his face, a joke on his lips, and a loving warm heart.

John is survived by his daughter, Elissa Penny (Jonathan Lewis); sister, Mary Cathey Hawkins (John); two brothers, Hugh R. Penny (Darlene) and Jay W. Penny, all of Waynesville; two granddaughters, who was the pride and joy of his life, Elisabeth and Josie Lewis, both of Waynesville; the mother of his daughter, Vickie Penny; six nieces and nephews.

A family celebration of John Penny’s life was held by his family on Thursday.
