John Conard

Canton – John A Conard, 84, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at his residence surrounded by family.

A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Glenn Wesley and Bertha Morrow Conard.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harrison and Raymond Conard; and three sisters, Viola Conard, Zora Messer and Hazel Haney.  John was a member of Center Pigeon Baptist Church and had served as a Sunday School teacher at Clyde First Baptist Church and Oak Grove Baptist Church.  He was a former employee of Dula Hospital in Lenoir, C.J. Harris Hospital in Sylva, Midway Medical Center in Clyde and later Champion International from which he retired with 32 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Miller Conard; one daughter, Sandra Kay Conard Henson (Billy) of Waynesville; two sons, Jerry Wayne Conard (Iolani Luna) of San Pedro Sula, Honduras and Charles Douglas Conard (Kim) of Canton; one sister, Wilma Sorrells of Canton; and one brother, Cecil Conard of Huntsville, Alabama; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Center Pigeon Baptist Church with the Reverend Scott Poole, Reverend J.D. Grant and Reverend Allen Blanton officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.  Pallbearers will be Vaughn Sorrells, Wayne Crowe, Gerald Trantham, Wayne Smith, Austin Moore, Matthew Poole and Kim Conard.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dillard Grant, Thad Messer, Reverend R.G. Garland and Jimmy Moore.
