Canton-John Edwin Cogdill, age 82, of the Thickety community, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at the Brian Center of Waynesville.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a son of the late Wilford and Essie Hipps Cogdill. He was the husband of the late Helen Alexander Cogdill who died in 1998 and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Cogdill Mabry. John retired from Champion International and was a member of North Canton Baptist Church. He was a United States Air Force veteran serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by a son-in-law, Rodney Mabry and a granddaughter, Caitlin Lauren Mabry, both of Chester, VA.
A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2004 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremations Services in Canton.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Western Carolina Chapter, Mountain Region Office, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801-2644.
