John Brooks Carter passed away on May 21, 2025, at the age of 88 in Haywood County, North Carolina. A native of Haywood County, he was born on March 21, 1937.

A proud graduate of NC State University, John earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career at Dayco, where he honed his skills in mechanical engineering, later retiring from Baxter International. His professional journey was characterized by perseverance and ingenuity, traits that left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the industry.

John had a diverse set of interests that reflected his vibrant personality. He was deeply passionate about cars, reveling in the thrill of restoring them to their former glory. His love for bluegrass music enriched his life and provided joy and solace through the years. In his later years, he found great satisfaction in the challenge of difficult puzzles, a testament to his analytical mind and appreciation for problem-solving.

Beyond his professional endeavors and hobbies, John was a devoted member of Clyde First Baptist, where he was appreciated and respected by his fellow congregants. His faith played an integral role in his life, guiding his actions and interactions with others.

John is survived by his loving wife, Sue Lindsey Carter. He is also survived by his son, Martin, and Martin's wife, Camille; his daughter, Leslie, and her husband, David; his nephew, Gary, and Gary's wife, Lisa; and his stepdaughter, Sharon, and her husband, Dale. Together, they continue his legacy with love and remembrance.

He was predeceased by his parents, Martin Luther Carter and Margie Brooks Carter, as well as his beloved sister, Ann Carter Shearer. The warmth and memories shared with these family members will remain a significant part of his family's history and the story of John's life.

John Brooks Carter leaves behind a legacy of kindness, talent, and dedication. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

The care of Mr. Carter is entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton, North Carolina.
