John L. Boyd, 91, of Maggie Valley, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Mission Hospital with his closest friend by his side.
Born on December 6, 1934, in Honaker, Virginia, John was the son of the late Madison and Carrie (Jackson) Boyd. He had a master’s degree and proudly served his country in the United States Army, which took him to Germany during his years of service.
Following his military service, John built a successful career as an entrepreneur, owning and operating Boyd's Homes.
John was married to Tesie Polk Boyd who preceded him in death in 2010. The couple was married for more than 50 years.
A skilled and passionate gardener, John especially loved growing roses and took great pride in caring for his gardens. Later in life, he and Tessie settled in Maggie Valley, where John put his talents to work once again by building the home they would share.
John's legacy of hard work, devotion, and love will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Left to mourn John’s passing is his brother, Donald (Shirley) Boyd; nephews, Edward and Spencer Boyd, three great nephews and close friend, Ann Roberts. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tessie Boyd; parents, Madison and Carrie Boyd; a sister, Mildred; two brothers, Leon and M.O. Boyd.
A funeral service will be held in John’s honor on June 29, 2026. A visitation with the family will be held at 10am and Funeral at 11am. Interment will take place following the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler.
