Joe Thomas

Joe Thomas, age 54, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the Elizabeth House in Hendersonville. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Charlie Clinton Thomas. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolina Kathy Thomas, and a niece, Hannah Thomas. Joe retired from the Town of Waynesville in 1993. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Dorothy and Joseph Lanning; his wife of ten years, Martha Moore Thomas; one daughter, Rebecca Ledbetter and Brian; three step-sons, Charles, Edwin, and Jesse Brown; one step-daughter, Lea James and Tim; two sisters, Cynthia Edwards and Gus, and Amanda Robinson and Paul; two brothers, Clifton Thomas and Cheryl, and Boyd Thomas and Debi; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jay Eastridge officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
