Joe Bob Haney, 92, of Palm Bay, Florida, formerly of Haywood County, North Carolina, went home to be at peace with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 29, 2026.
Born on June 29, 1933, in Haywood County, Joe was the son of the late Washington Pentis Haney and Leslie Mae Price Haney. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Nancy Jo Haney, who passed away in 2023, and by his daughter, Cheri Haney Camerlingo, who passed away in 1997.
Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1962. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 40 years of his career to Champion Paper Mill before retiring. A man of unwavering faith, Joe was a co-founder of Rescue Church, where he faithfully served alongside his wife and was a pillar of the church family.
Joe was known for his quick wit, contagious sense of humor, and ability to make those around him laugh. Affectionately known as "God's Handyman," he had a remarkable talent for fixing just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved singing, watching scary movies, and spending time with his daughter and family. One of his greatest joys was the special bond he shared with his granddaughter, who was not only his granddaughter but also one of his very best friends. Together they created countless cherished memories that will forever be treasured.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Rebecca Ostman, also affectionately known as his "son"; his granddaughter, Maria Camerlingo (Mohamed); his great-granddaughter, Sophia Camerlingo; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Canton, with Zeb McGee officiating. Interment, with Army military honors, will follow at New Bon-A-Venture Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rescue Church, 27 Beaverdam St., Canton, NC 28716, in honor of Joe's faithful service and love for his church family.
