Joan Reno Latimer

Waynesville, Joan Reno Latimer, 92 passed away on August 20, 2025, at the Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center.

Joan was the daughter of the late Albert J. and Goldie Plemmons Reno. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Latimer, Jr, her grandson, Daniel Hyde Latimer. Also, her brother, A.J. Reno and sister Betty Lee Shepard.

She was a resident of Lake Junaluska for over 67 years. She attended Blanton Business College. Joan retired from the Haywood County School system after working as a secretary and teachers' aide at the Hazelwood Elementary School. She was a supporter of the Hart Theater and Folkmoot, a Junaluskan, delivered meals on wheels, and enjoyed travel and ballroom dancing.

Joan was a member of the Clyde Central United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and held various positions in the women's society.

She is survived by her son, Gary Latimer (Dee Dee) and daughter, Karen Garrison; a sister-in-law, Carol Latimer Jackson; five grandchildren, Jessica, Rachel, Sarah, Ben, and Morgan, and eight great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Clyde Central United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8, Clyde, NC 28721.

The care of Ms. Latimer has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville
